Beautiful Lighting in
3 Simple Steps

Working with Gemmell Outdoor Lighting starts with a free design walk — Phil visits your property, builds a lighting plan, and gives you a written quote. Installation is typically completed in a single day. You see the finished result after dark before the crew leaves. Call (615) 914-4411.

We Don't Do Packages. We Do Craft.

Every home is different. The architecture is different. The tree canopy is different, which is usually what decides whether a property wants architectural uplighting, landscape lighting through the beds and trees, or both. The way your family uses the outdoor space is different. A lighting system designed for all of those things — specifically — is what separates a property that glows from one that just has lights in the ground.

The Process

From First Conversation to Your Property Illuminated

01

Free Design Walk
at Your Home

It starts with a conversation at your property — at dusk if possible. Phil walks your home with you and does something most contractors don't: he listens before he recommends. What do you want to feel when you pull into the driveway? Which trees do you love? Is there outdoor space you want to reclaim at night?

The design walk is free and comes with no obligation. It's how we make sure a project is the right fit before anyone commits to anything.

  • — No obligation, no sales pressure
  • — At dusk preferred — see what we're working with in real light
  • — Phil walks every property personally
02

Your Custom
Lighting Plan

After the walk, Phil designs a custom lighting plan for your property. Not a template. Not a menu of options. A specific design built around your home's architecture, your landscape, and your goals — with fixture types, placement, and wiring all mapped out before a single hole is dug.

You review and approve the plan before any work begins. The price is on the table before the first truck arrives.

  • — Full fixture list and placement plan — site-specific
  • — Fixed quote — approved before work starts
  • — Revisions welcome — it's your home
03

Professional Installation
& Your First Night

Gemmell Outdoor Lighting installs everything to plan. Every wire buried. Every fixture adjusted for the exact angle we discussed. Every transformer programmed to your schedule. On the final walkthrough, Phil tests every circuit and adjusts anything that isn't exactly right.

The workmanship warranty covers the installation. If a bulb fails within warranty, we replace it. If a fixture shifts or a wire connection works loose, we come back and fix it. You're not calling a warranty hotline — you're calling Phil's number.

  • — Install to plan — same team, same person
  • — Final walkthrough and adjustment before we leave
  • — Workmanship warranty — call Phil directly

About the Process

Is the design walk really free?

Yes. The design walk is free and comes with no obligation. We don't charge for the walk, the plan, or the quote. We do all of that because we want to make sure the project is right for both of us before anyone commits to anything.

How long does a typical installation take?

Most residential installations take one day. Larger estate properties with significant driveway runs, multiple zones, or hardscape integration may take two days. Phil can give you a realistic timeline during the design walk once the scope is clear.

What if I want to change the plan before installation?

The plan is yours to revise before you approve it. Once you sign off, we build to spec — but the whole point of the design stage is to get it right before the first truck arrives. Revisions before approval are always welcome.

How do I choose an outdoor lighting installer?

Two things separate the field. Find out whether the person drawing the plan is the one who installs it and comes back to it, because subcontracting either end is common and nobody volunteers it. Then ask to see the plan itself before you approve anything.

A real one is a drawing with fixture positions, beam directions and wire routes on it, not a number on a page.

What does the workmanship warranty cover?

Our workmanship warranty covers the installation — the wiring, connections, fixture mounting, and transformer programming. If a fixture shifts, a connection works loose, or a bulb fails within the warranty period, we come back and fix it. Confirm full warranty terms and duration with Phil during the design walk.

Do you work with my existing lighting or landscaping contractor?

Yes. Gemmell Outdoor Lighting works alongside landscapers, irrigation contractors, and pool companies regularly. We coordinate scope and timing so work doesn't conflict. Phil can reach out to your contractor directly if that's useful.

What does a landscape lighting design actually include?

A drawing made against your property. It marks every fixture position, the beam direction and output of each one, the zones, and the wire routes, along with the transformer size and where it sits. It comes with the written quote, and you approve both before anything goes in the ground.
