We Service What We Install.
And Fix What Others Installed Too.

An outdoor lighting system that isn't working isn't just an aesthetic problem. A failed step light is a trip hazard. A dead perimeter fixture is an exploitable blind spot. A malfunctioning transformer takes down your entire investment at once. Maintenance is protection — and it's far cheaper than the alternative.

Most of the repair calls Gemmell Outdoor Lighting receives are for systems installed by someone else — contractors who are no longer in business, franchise dealers whose local branch closed, or DIY installs that were never quite right. Phil and his team assess any system, any brand, any age. They don't just replace a bulb and leave; they inspect every connection, check transformer health, and tell you what needs attention now versus what can wait. Maintenance and repair calls run across Williamson County and the Nashville-side estate neighborhoods, the same area we design and install in.

How We Help

Every Service Situation, Covered

Scheduled

Annual Maintenance Programs

Seasonal inspection and tune-up: fixture realignment, beam angle check, connection and corrosion assessment, transformer performance review, timer calibration. Do it once a year and your system performs like new indefinitely.

Reactive

Repair & Emergency Service

Single fixture failure, transformer outage, wiring fault, or full system down — Gemmell Outdoor Lighting responds to service calls across Williamson County. We fix it right the first time, not after three visits.

Upgrade

System Overhaul & Upgrade

Retrofit halogen to LED, upgrade an ageing transformer, add smart control to a timer-only system, or bring a neglected install back to specification. We assess what you have and recommend only what's worth spending money on.

Seating a low-voltage path light in a garden bed. Most landscape lighting repairs come down to a fixture that has shifted, a corroded connection or a lamp at the end of its life.

Low voltage lighting repair is most of this work, and the crew that turns up for it is the crew that designs new systems, so the diagnosis comes from someone who has buried the same cable. Low voltage landscape lighting repair starts with a meter rather than a shovel: the transformer output, then the run, then the joint where the fault usually turns out to be.

Common Questions

Questions, Answered

How do I maintain outdoor lighting between service visits?

Keep lenses clear of mulch and leaf litter, and cut back growth that has swallowed a fixture. Leave the aiming alone — a knocked fixture is better re-aimed properly on the next visit than guessed at with the light off.

Connections, transformer load, timer drift and corrosion are what the annual visit is for, and none of them are a homeowner job.

Can oxidized brass or copper outdoor light fixtures be restored?

Usually, and often they should be left alone. Solid brass and copper develop a patina that protects the metal; that is the finish doing its job, not failing. If you want the bright finish back, a fixture can be cleaned and re-sealed, but painting a brass fixture is a mistake, because the coating fails outdoors within a season or two.

Faded, chalky aluminum is a different story: that is the metal corroding, and replacement is the recommendation.

How long do LED landscape lights last?

Longer than the halogen bulbs they replace, which typically last a few thousand hours. LED landscape lamps and fixtures are usually rated in the tens of thousands of hours, and that rating normally means the point where light output has faded to about 70 percent, not the day the light goes dark.

At eight hours a night, 40,000 hours works out to almost 14 years. In the ground, the diode is rarely what fails first. Water getting into a fixture, a corroded connection or an aging transformer usually ends a light's life sooner, which is why those are what a maintenance visit checks.
